Campervan Awnings – A Camping Must Have

The long winter months are finally over, the last snow has melted and everyday, the grass is green again with all the rain and summer is around the corner. Now it is time to start planning those camping trips again. As an avid camper, you probably have figured out all the sites to visit this year. This is the time when we either hire or pull out the campervan and load the whole family in for that trip to the mountains.

Now with a camper van, one thing you cannot do without is a campervan awning, well, I guess you can do without it, but between the rain and the scorching sun, it will not be a happy time. With a van camper, it is wise to attach an awning to provide shade from the hot sun and shelter from the rain. You want to be able to step out in the rain without being drenched to the skin, and if you get an awning that actually attaches to the van, you can even sit out when it is raining without getting wet. It is also necessary for sitting out on those hot afternoons when the heat makes it unbearable for any activity.

These days, people are moving more toward camper vans because of the flexibility of being able to move from place to place without the problem of setting up and taking down. However, the little extras you add like an awning can definitely add to the size of your living area and improve the quality of your camping experience. Imagine sitting out there with your friends, just having fun and sharing your day’s experiences.

The van campers come pretty well equipped these days and are more or less like mini motor homes with comforts like beds, cooking area, showers, toilets and refrigerators, plus they are easy to drive, are fuel efficient and do not need a special parking spot.
With most camper vans, sleeping just four people, an awning that seals properly to your van and a proper groundsheet, can easily add more room that can double as an extra sleeping space.

The different types of awnings in the market today, provide some flexibility when making a choice. Some of them can stand-alone and are easily detachable from your van if you need to drive out for some time. They also re-attach quite easily on your return to camp. One benefit of this is that you do not have to load everything and everyone into the van every time you need to make a trip away from the campsite. There are also some stand-alone awnings that do not attach to your van, but actually set up just outside of your van. They not only protect you from the weather, but provide privacy as well.
Some other styles of awnings for campervans come with sidewalls that are detachable. These extend out from the roof of your camper van and provide over-head protection, which comes in handy in very warm weather when you need some breeze blowing through your sitting area.

One thing to note though is that your camper van awnings are not retractable so you will have to set up and take down your awnings each trip you make. Regardless, it is still worthwhile because of the comfort and ease it provides. You can find any kind of awning for campervan use easily on the worldwide web as well as in your local yellow pages. Best of all is that you should be able to find one that fits within your budget.
