Cheap Mini Blinds – Minimum Expense, Maximum Coverage

If you are after a sleek look in your room, with window coverings that don’t stand out too much, but offer the functionality you expect from a good blind, then cheap mini blinds can be a great option. If you choose the right style to match your decor, you will hardly even notice they are there. If you do want to make a bit more of a feature out of your window, you can still utilise the functionality of mini blinds and add a curtain or other window covering over the top. This way, you get the best of both worlds. Mini blinds have risen in popularity in recent years, especially in new homes, and as a result there is now a wide range of textures, colors and styles to choose from.

Depending on where you look, you will find a vast range of prices for these blinds. As with most things in the retail sector, the price of the blind will more often than not match the quality of the product. So the first thing you need to ask yourself is how much you are willing to spend on your blinds. If the budgets tight, or if you have a lot of windows that need covering, then you are going to have to find a middle ground that you can afford.

Mini blinds come in three basic materials; wood, aluminum and vinyl. Wood is the most expensive of the three, but it’s not only in the window coverings industry where you are paying a premium for wood, the price of wood has been steadily increasing for the last few years and doesn’t look like letting up anytime soon. As warm and inviting as wood can be, it also has its downsides. For instance, wood mini blinds will be more likely to warp and crack over long periods of time. cheap mini blindsIf they are exposed to direct sunlight and are not treated regulalrly, they will also tend to fade. Another option, if you are set on the look of wood, is to get a faux wood solution, which will cost a lot less, while not having to be treated regularly like wood.

Aluminum can cost you a little less than wood, and give you the added benefit of having a material that will be more robust and stand the test of time in your home. Many people don’t like the thought of having aluminum on the inside of their homes, seeing it as more of an outdoors material for awnings and the like. You should hold judgement until you’ve actually looked at this option, however. You can find some cheap aluminum mini blinds that are treated in such a way that they don’t even look like aluminum.

The cheapest option, however is vinyl. Cheap vinyl mini blinds can be found in abundance in most window treatment specialist stores. They are by far the most popular of blinds, and will last you a lifetime with very little maintenance needed. They are extremely easy to clean, and come in so many styles that you are sure to find one that looks right for your particular needs.

Mini Blinds – Clearing Up The Misconceptions

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion about what a mini blind actually is, and this is not helped by the fact that many manufacturers are marketing blinds as mini blinds, simply because it’s the current catch phrase, when what they are selling are not, in fact, mini blinds. The one defining characteristic of a mini blind is the width of it’s slats. If you see a blind, and the width of it’s slats is larger than 25mm, then it is not a mini blind, it most likely a venetian blind. I think that part of the confusion stems from the fact that the United Kingdom don’t even use the term “mini blind”, they refer to any blind with horizontal slats as a venetian blind, regardless of the width of the slat.

There is also a misconception in the eyes of the general public that a mini blind is a poor mans blind, and is usually only used in cheap motels or backpacker hostels. This is also an untruth, and if you do a bit of research, you will find that there are in fact a large range of wood mini blinds that you can choose from, some of them extremely sophisticated and quite expensive.

The slats of a mini blind are joined together by lengths of string that run vertically down the length of the blind. Each slat has a cord that runs underneath it (sometimes referred to as a ladder cord). At the bottom of the blind is a rail that these cords attach to. As with venetian blinds, there are two separate moving functions available with a mini blind. One is that the slats tilt backwards and forwards, allowing you to choose how much sunlight is filtered through the blinds, and the other is the ability to lift the entire group of slats up and down, giving you an uninterrupted view out your window. mini blindsThere are also two different types of mechanisms available for these functions. One is cords that run down one side of your blind, and the other is what is commonly referred to as a “tilt wand”, which is a long stick that can be twisted to operate the slat tilting.

Mini blinds continue to increase in popularity, and as I’ve said previously, there are now some high quality designs that you can purchase that are too good to be considered cheap mini blinds. The ideal situation for a mini blind is a smaller window. Having thinner slats on a larger window just does not look as effective. There are quite a few different materials that you can get mini blinds in as well, including vinyl mini blinds and aluminium mini blinds.
