Outdoor Shades – Keeping Your Cool Outside

If you are lucky enough to be the owner (or renter) of a home that has a patio attached to it, then you will realise just how important the outdoor shade is. Your home is a place for you to get away from it all and relax, but having a structure attached to the outside of your house allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds; to be able to relax outdoors and watch the birds in the comfort and privacy of your own space. The only problem is that the time when you need to get out of the house the most is in the middle of summer, when it gets hot and stuffy inside. If you haven’t got sufficient shade on your patio, then you are going to be sitting inside, looking out the window, and wishing you could be out there. For these reasons, outdoor shades are almost a necessity, and if you haven’t got one on your deck, then you should definitely consider getting one, the expense is well worth it.

There are many different materials that outdoor shades are made from, and I’d like to discuss a few of them with you. The most popular in recent times is solar screen fabric, which is a material especially, designed for this very purpose. This fabric is great, as it blocks out the majority of the heat from the summer sun, and will reduce the glare as well. It can be awfully uncomfortable sitting on your patio and squinting from the sun in your eyes, especially when you are trying to enjoy a good book. Solar screen fabric does a great job of blocking out all of those harmful UV rays as well, keeping you and your family safe. Other materials include polyester, fibreglass, polyethylene and acrylic. t should be noted that fibreglass is not extremely strong, and will easily tear if exposed to high winds. If strength is a concern, then polyethylene is a great choice, as it will withstand a great deal of beating without getting wrecked.

The looser the weave is on your shade, the more light will come through. Most good retailers that sell these shades will be able to give you demonstrations of the the different degrees of openness, which will make your decision a lot easier.

A lot of people have trouble when trying to choose a color for their outdoor sun shades. You obviously want the shade to blend in with the style of your home as much as possible, and there are a huge range of hues that you can choose from. The most important thing to remember is that the darker the color, the more heat will be allowed through. If you live in an area that has extreme summer heat, then a bright color is going to be much more effective for your needs.

There is a shade to match almost any situation you could imagine. Depending on which way your patio is facing, and what other shelter is around (for example, trees and roof overhang), you may not need a shade that goes straight over the top of your porch, Many people prefer to have a shade running down one side where the afternoon sun hits, while others love the allure of a shade sail. You can also get outdoor window shades, which are especially designed so that you cannot see through them from the outside, but can still look out from the interior.
